the first few days...
So, after more than 20 hours in the car, I'm finally in Gillette, Wyoming. I'm not sure if that's how to spell Gillette, though... O.o Anyways, there was a lot of movie-watching in the car, and I'm almost sick of movies. Almost. LOL I'm so tired of being the in the car, especially with all the crap that was stuffed in there. *sigh*
In fic-ish news, I've written two new very short ficlets, but I'm not quite done editing them, and I'm working on editing the epilogue of another fic that I can't believe is finished in the first place. \o/ And all the forest fires made me think of Cautery, which I haven't read in forever, but I remember that I loved it, so I'm rereading that now. (there is a sequel as well, called Incendere, the link to which is the most recently posted thing at my del.icio.us page.)
That's it for now. The competition starts at like, 7:30 in the mornings every day until the end of the week, which SUCKS A LOT. so I better get to sleep. >.< G'night, flist! Talk to you all soon.
We went through Yellowstone and saw all sorts of beasties and geysers and cool stuff like that. I liked the steam pool things, those were awesome, even though they smelled like sulfur. Old Faithful wasn't very faithful, though, and it wasn't even the most impressive geyser I saw there.
The forest fires are FREAKY, because EVERYWHERE I go, there's like, huge black areas with dead trees and charred ground and stuff, and it's like the whole state of Wyoming is scarred, it's so weird. The one that was right by the road in Yellowstone, though, was like, burning a bit on the ground, but it was really smoky everywhere, and then as we continued along the road, looking into the trees, suddenly there were these HUGE GIGANTIC FLAMES a bit farther in. It was like a huge roaring campfire, only at the top of the tree instead of on the ground. It was kinda cool, though. I think my sis got a cool pic with some firefighters just standing by the side of the road watching it, LOL. I'll have to post pics soon. Maybe tomorrow, as I'm sure I'll have time. The arena where the agility championships are has wi-fi!! but it smells like horse shit, which isn't so good. >.<
Today I went to see Devil's Tower, which is that weird mountain in Close Encounters, so that was really cool. It's not all that big, though! I thought it was much bigger. The trail that goes all the way around it is only a mile long. O.o
Also, because we're up at a much higher altitude than Seattle (which is at sea-level, lol), my dad keeps saying "there's not enough O's!", referring to oxygen, which omg THERE IS NOT ENOUGH OF. I'm not very athletic, I'll be the first to admit, but usually I can walk for a while without getting short of breath! >.< I think when we go back home, we're all going to be choking on the air. LOL
I still haven't emailed my teachers to tell them I'm missing the first day of school, but I guess I'll do that tomorrow. I'm not quite sure what to say to them. >.<
