Everyone's been making rec lists for MCR fandom, like, all the must-read stories for newbies. Pretty much everything I would rec has already been recced, SO I decided to do something a little different. I have been told that I write D/s fic pretty well (♥!), but there's some excellent stuff out there that I love to read and reread and reread, fics that inspire me and that I've learned from, so, here's a list of those. It says "multifandom" in the subject line, but it's really only the fandoms and pairings I like, so don't go expecting something varied and diverse. Also, everything here is NC-17 unless otherwise noted.

ExpandLord of the Rings RPS )

LotR RPS is a fandom FULL of excellent BDSM fics, and I'm glad I started out in that fandom. There are far too many to name here (I've gone way past the number I expected to limit myself to anyway), so check out my delicious for more.

ExpandMy Chemical Romance )

There's something about most of these bandom fics that I can't put my finger on, but they feel different than the lotrips BDSM fics. I don't know why; there's excellent fic in both fandoms. I have less meta about this fandom, apparently. Except that's not exactly true, because I have a ton of meta in my head about the people themselves. I don't know why it feels so different, but it's weirding me out. Anyway, moving on.

There doesn't seem to be quiiiite as much BDSM in this fandom as there was in lotrips, but there's still quite a lot that I have saved to my delicious that I haven't recced here. Check it out. I've been a little lenient with my bdsm tag, though; most of these just have some element (sometimes a pretty vague element) of D/s.

ExpandAdam Lambert (and Co.) )

And as always, there's more to be found at my delicious! Also, there's a surprising amount of good stuff over at the [livejournal.com profile] glam_kink meme. I like how kinky this fandom seems to be, and how, even if Adam isn't all that kinky in real life, he makes it easy to push him to that extreme in fiction.

That pretty much concludes this rec list. Hopefully I rambled enough-but-not-too-much for you. :) This was really a lot of fun, because I had an excuse to reread some really good fic. Especially in lotrips; I haven't read much in that fandom in a long time, so it was good to revisit. Oh, and if you have any other must-read BDSM fics, please link me to them! I'm always up for more good kinkfic.

ETA (April 2011): This list, especially in Adam fandom, is not up to date at all. A lot of really excellent BDSM fics have been posted since I wrote this post, and I've saved some of them to my delicious and some of them to my AO3 bookmarks if you'd like to go looking for them. I'll probably do an updated D/s reclist at some point, and I'll link to it here when I do.
silentdescant: (join the black parade)
I've read some good stuff recently, but here's a few specific fics I want to mention. First, Knickpoint, which is Arthur/Eames for the prompt "barebaking for the first time". It's super hot, and I really like these characterizations, even though it is a little fluffier than my usual preferences (which is great for you guys, since nobody likes anything as depressing as I like it). Secondly, just because a man visits another man doesn't mean they're doing anything illegal (yet), which is also Arthur/Eames, and is very funny. Snappy dialogue and adorable imagery. And finally, a couple of Adam/TommyJoe fics: Scenic Route, because it has some of the long, drawn-out stuff I've been craving even though Tommy doesn't quite have a gay freakout, and The Boat That Would Row You Back, Carefully, because it's Dom/sub but not explicit, and it's really very very sweet. There's more recs at my delicious, of course, but those are a few that stood out.

I haven't been doing a whole lot except reading fic the past couple of days, because getting into two new fandoms at once is exhausting and there's so much to catch up on. Of course, with Inception, it seems like fics are just appearing out of nowhere at some kind of truly epic rate, and I can't even keep up with that alone (not all these fics are any good, though). With Adam and Tommy, it's more finding good fics that are maybe a little older.

But I have been doing something! Last night I really bit the bullet and started writing my werewolfbb fic, because lol I only had like two hundred words written in a notebook somewhere, and between last night and this afternoon, I've actually gotten a fair amount done! I'm just about up to 3k already, which is both good and bad because yay, closer to the minimum wordcount, but oh man, how long is this fic gonna be? I miiiight need to talk through my plot with someone soon, because I don't really have an ending planned out yet, so if anyone wants to talk about bandom werewolves? :D? Let me know. If I get a handle on this fic (and get a plot idea) maybe I can attempt the Inception bigbang. O.o

But besides that, I've just been sitting around reading fic and snuggling the little fluffmonster I have dubbed "lil dude". I think I mentioned that he's super shy, right? Well in the past couple of days, he's had a breakthrough and will now run around all over the house and explore things and LET PEOPLE TOUCH HIM! He is so soft and tiny. *______* He's still kind of a weirdo, but he lets me pick him up and pet him and snuggle him sometimes, which is quite awesome. \o/ HE IS SO FUCKING CUTE I CAN'T STAND IT. I wanna keep him. Except he's a boy and I don't really like boy dogs. :\

I am having conflicty conflicted thoughts about relationships and that nonsense, but that's nothing new, so I'll let it stew for a little while longer before rambling about it on here. I don't really want to filter this post, since it has fic recs.
silentdescant: (so long and goodnight)
HEY GUYS. The first BBB fic I did art for has been posted! Working for Joy on Overtime, by the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] ciel_vert and [livejournal.com profile] theopteryx. I'm super excited to read the finished fic, because it was already really good when I read it the first time, and that was with scenes missing. So go check it out, because a Frank/Gerard Pretty Woman AU is just what this fandom needs right now. :D

My flist is fairly incestuous, though, and you all probably already know about this fic being posted. I love you guys.

In other BBB fic-related news, I've sent mine off to my beta and I've got all the kinks with the mix I received worked out, and everything is awesome. I just need to find time to finish and code everything around my cousin's graduation (tomorrow) and my sister's graduation (next week) and my grandparents being in town all the time between. Not much else happened today. My life is boring.

ps: I started reading Ours Is A Criminal And Uncouth Love earlier today and I've only read the first part and a half, but I already want to rec it. Frank/Bob, kinky and sexy and angsty prisonfic, my kind of thing. :P

that icon meme everybody's doing. except it works better when you guys do it because YOU ALL HAVE MORE ICONS THAN ME ;____; but I will try to make do. I used more than one for a few questions because I didn't want any of my icons feeling left out. :P

recs!
- with the lights on has a bigbang sequel: down to the water. girl!Gee/Frank, sooooo amazing. lots of Frank not knowing how to help, and that's really all he wants, is to help. I just reread the first one, too, and nnngh that's good. super hot sex, and I love both of them as characters. I wish I could say this is the best porn I've read recently, because it is amazing, but the problem is that I've read some other really awesome porn and then I couldn't decide. I will just say that it's the best het porn I've read recently.
- some really awesome historical fluffy backstory to go with I Was Your Silver Lining. knowing what happens next in the timeline is kind of heartbreaking, but this little glimpse is so great, how they're just so young and in love and happy. that makes me smile. :)
- also I reread To Cast Turpentine Kisses last night, because bandom needs moar kinkfic and nnngh it is so good. hello, awesome D/s relationship PLUS teacher/student angst. kiiind of makes me want to pick up (and catch up) lotruniversity again. (why was kink so abundant in lotrips but so hard to find in bandom? not fair!)
- another two fics I reread because I wanted something kinky: As Mine See It, where FRANK WEARS A COLLAR IN PUBLIC, okay, I love this fic a lot, and also Burn, where Frank is a total size queen and it is really hot.
- [livejournal.com profile] bexless posted a fic today and that is always exciting. kind of a crossover with American Idol and MCR, even though that isn't much of a crossover and is just more like real life. but anyway, it's Adam Lambert/Frank/Gerard, and don't worry, the OTP is still very much intact, and it is basically just SUPER HOT because it is set during Projekt Revolution when Frank was for all intents and purposes in heat. Pinch Hitter. it's hot.

plus, okay, she has a really great primer picspam to explain the situation. and I don't know about you guys, but I loooove primer picspams (and I hope people will make more once we start getting new pictures), and I'm always tickled by the way Bex explains all these people to newcomers. plus, nnngh Frank and Gee need to get on stage asap. PLUS it keeps flashing through my mind, all the times they've said that ProRev was their favorite tour and they had the time of their lives (while groping and kissing each other--oh hey, did you know Gerard got MARRIED during all that as well?!) and how it kind of got back to being fun again, and sorry but I just need to flail for a moment because OMG I hope they remember that when they start touring again. because seriously, it was the best for us too.

also I know I've mentioned rereading unholyverse about a million times but I will rec that fic forever, to anyone, because it is one of my absolute favorites. and okay yes, not all of these fics are new, but they are all good and they're some of what I've been reading recently while waiting for the mcr bigbangs to be posted.

so yesterday I didn't work on my big bang but I wrote 2k of something else so I feel kind of accomplished! probably won't get much done today since I need to actually do homework for tomorrow, and today I also have PRACTICUM UGH UGH UGH right after drawing class. I really hope it will not be torture. (ugh practicummmmmm)

ALSO here are a couple pictures I uploaded for [livejournal.com profile] desfinado of Frank being a snuggle-whore, to go with the picspam theme of Frank being tiny and manhandled and subby, which is basically my favorite theme in the history of ever.

Okay, so I read Learned Your Name Without Words this morning (Frank/Bob, read it if you haven't), and it got me thinking thinky-thoughts about amnesia fics and what I like. Expandspoilers for that fic, mentions of others amnesia-related things )

I don't know why I just rambled for three paragraphs about amnesia fics. I really need to be taking a shower and reading The Frogs and getting ready to leave in an hour and a half. D:
silentdescant: (mikeyway)
1. The Periodic Table of Typefaces, which was passed around on twitter a while back but I just needed to mention it here too. AWESOME.

2. Pictures of bugs that I actually like! Sleeping insects covered in dew. Weird and alien and kind of gorgeous. (via @amandapalmer -- I know, I know)

3. Abandoned places: 10 creepy, beautiful modern ruins. I LOVE these photos. I haven't looked at them all in detail yet, but I think my favorite is the last one on the list, which is the teaser image as well. So pretty and yeah, creepy. (via tumblr)

4. The first [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang story has been posted, Winds Will Move Us Around by [livejournal.com profile] maryangel200. Lovely and quiet, and pretty angsty too. I still need to download the mixes. (And I still don't have a posting date of my own. ughhh)

5. Daily Ampersands @ tumblr, which is very super cool. I love ampersands (a lot).

6. I posted this on tumblr/twitter last night, but it's a sketch I did during the first day with a model in life drawing. And speaking of life drawing, I need to get dressed and catch a bus before I'm late, ack! /o\

ps: when a milk carton says it will be good until the 10th, it should not be disgustingly sour on the 5th. I only bought it a few days ago! >:( ruined my breakfast.

pps: finished reading Nightswimming this morning and already I want to read Unholyverse again (which I read JUST before Nightswimming). It probably comes up the most often in my list of favorite fics to reread.
silentdescant: (monaboyd love)
Oh why not. :D

DAY 1: Rec 3 challenge stories or fanworks in your journal.
Challenge stories/fanworks include flashfics from a flashfic challenge, yuletide and secret santa stories, Valentine's exchanges, kink memes, porn battles, and any other organised challenge or exchange in any fandom.

A World So Small by [livejournal.com profile] jezrana, for [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang 2009. Frank/Gerard Victorian AU. I don't even know how many times I've read this. A LOT. It's one of those fics that I go to for comfort reading.

Kings of Glamor by [livejournal.com profile] desfinado, for [livejournal.com profile] no_tags. Gerard/Mikey/Frank tour shenanigans. This has got to be one of the hottest fics ever, seriously. Frank ends up on his knees, and that's ALWAYS a good thing.

Purgatorio by [livejournal.com profile] tuesdaysgone, for [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang 2009. Frank/Gerard detective AU. I actually can't remember how this ends at the moment, but I do remember wishing it would never end, because it's that awesome. I love the film noir feel and the angst.

There were a lot of really awesome fics from bbb and no_tags that I considered reccing but I'm sorry, there were limitations! :( It was so hard to only pick three, though, omg. So go and read all the no_tags fic and all the bbb fic you can find. :D LOL I also just realized that I'm now friends with all three authors (plus several others I almost recced). You're all so awesome and talented and I love you. ♥

old fic rec

Feb. 2nd, 2010 01:23 am
silentdescant: (we'll love again and we'll laugh again)
okay, so i don't have anything useful to say except holy fuck how have i seriously NOT READ THIS BEFORE? tie your monster down by [livejournal.com profile] stereomer, and it's basically everything i ever want out of a fic, and SOMEHOW I'VE SKIPPED OVER IT UNTIL NOW, IDEK. and even though i'm pretty much positive i'm the only one on my bandom flist late to this party, i still have to rec it here.

THEY ARE SPIES, OKAY. DYSFUNCTIONAL, ADORABLE, BADASS SPIES. oh my god i can't even. i just love it way too much. there are parts that are laugh-out-loud funny, and parts that are kind of heartbreaking and sad with the pining and everything, and then, uh... there's a torture sequence that i actually had to stop reading. there are very few things that squick me enough to STOP READING and put it down and back away for a moment, but wow, this was a really good torture scene. i went back to it (obviously), but with my hands clenched into fists and covering my mouth, because HOLY CRAP. (yeah, i'm somewhat squicked by a torture scene, i get the irony here).

but omg such a fun fic, such an awesome, fantastic fic. I LOVE IT A LOT. i feel like my birthday has come early. don't you know i love action AUs? with SPIES? and GUNS? and MYSTERIES? and i think frank even has a bit of a pain kink. it's like all of my favorite elements stuffed into one fic by an awesome author. i just can't even deal, i'm so excited about this. i'm gonna reread it probably uh, tomorrow. i feel so late to this party! why have i never read this before? what is wrong with me?! don't make fun of me. i get excited about these things. i can't believe i haven't read it until now.

ps: if you're friends with [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley, read everything mentioned here or your bandom experience will be forever incomplete. i'm probably going to actually bookmark that post on my phone so i have easy links to all my favorite fics. seriously. oh god, i love bandom.

&GERARD WAY; i said in a comment to... somebody's post, that in the cover pic, it looks like he's about to pull a gun out of his pocket. I LIKE IT. he's kind of incredibly hot. and intelligent and talented and confident, and i love his outfit. and his face. I WANT THIS ALBUM. NOW.

Expanda couple of cute puppy pics )

ps: here's another "lindsey is amazing" picspam.

pps: i reread unequivocal last night (it made me stay up until 3am /o\ ahhh) and it killed me dead, like it always does. it's like. it's real. only not. and frank's pov during gerard's downward spiral is epically heartbreaking.

ppps: just watched the new episode of house. LOL HOUSE. AND WILSON. and now that i'm more into sherlock holmes, i'm drawing way more parallels.

pppps: i have no homework due at the moment and no class until several hours from now and i am bored. perhaps i will work on one of my bigbangs. i'm doing a lot of public/fandom-related posts lately. lol
silentdescant: (superhappy dom)
The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing from me. 1. GO READ THE THIRD INSTALLMENT OF UNHOLYVERSE. and if you haven't read Unholyverse, GO DO THAT. It is by [livejournal.com profile] bexless and it is amazing and owns my soul. Even if you're not into bandom at all, you should read this fic. It is seriously that amazing. It's like C-verse for lotrips, only with less kinky sex. hahaha

2. I don't think I posted about this (though I twittered/facebooked/flailed at people in gchat), but I FINALLLLLLLY finished writing my BBB fic. Yeah, I know it's almost the end of the month, shut up. IT WILL GET EDITED, I SWEAR. Just.... very very quickly. :\ BUT IT'S DONE, and that's the point, and it's something like 57k and it's EPIC, OKAY, and I am still in love with it and cannot WAIT for you guys to read it.

3. I reinstalled my drivers and managed to fix my audio and DVD-player computer issues. THEREFORE: LOTMS TONIGHT. It was great, and the video wasn't even jumpy and stuttery. I LOVE THIS BAND.

I spent a lot of today writing character sketches and stuff with [livejournal.com profile] giddy_london for our AU OF AWESOME, which seriously looks like it's gonna be epic, no joke. at first it was just like, professor!Gerard + bartender!Frank, but now there's BRIAN SCHECHTER and BOB MOTHERFUCKING BRYAR and MIKEYWAY and Pete and Alicia and Ray and even Jamia and Lyn-Z. and it's going to be so awesome, you guys, seriously. Mikeyway has whoreboots and is a lazy A&R guy! it's awesome!

in sort of related news, signups are open for [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang, and I'm seriously thinking about signing up. (and how many times am I going to say "seriously" in this post, omg!). maybe with my mafiafic, which is already sort of epic. but even if I didn't sign up to write, I could maybe sign up to do fanart? which, y'know. um, I'm totally not confident in my art abilities, but it's a possibility, I guess. or maybe even do both, write and draw! if I'm that ambitious. O.o

ETA: this is one of the best fics I've read in a while, frankly (heh, frankly). Frank/Jamia, pegging. you should read it, it's hot. I love Jamia.
silentdescant: (please)
I've limited myself to long/series fics, because if I included one-shots, I would be making up categories for absolutely everything. Down to "best use of the word 'desperate' in a sexual situation" and stuff like that. So these are just the really long, epic ones that if you haven't read them yet, you really really should. And now, in no particular order...

1) OMG SHOEBOX. OMG OMG OMG.

2) I was going to post the next chapter of De Divinatione either today or yesterday, but as I was writing it (and it's way longer now, btw), I discovered a NEW PLOT POINT, so I'm now in the process of going back and revising the first few chapters. LOL

3) I registered for summer classes! Pop Culture and that moviemaking one, which is gonna be SO AWESOME. And the Pop Culture one is online, so I'll only have to physically go to the production meetings for the movie. Which I'm sure aren't going to be early in the morning. YAY. AND, I put in my housing request at SCAD. WOO!

4) Raquel just showed me this, and it is AWESOME.

5) Only one more week of body boot camp. I've survived so far. Sort of. And as of Monday, I'm starting Weight Watchers again. >.<

eta: 6) I JUST WROTE A FICLET. It's Raquel's fault. And that cute webcomic site's. (side note about fic-ish things: I need to repost what I did for m_m, and update my index, and post the next chapter of DD)

My sister had to go to the hospital last night 'cause she fell weirdly on her leg while rock climbing. So now she's all doped up on pain meds. What fun! O.o

Italian was cancelled today. It would've been nice to know that before I left the house, but oh well. The teacher's Spanish class was cancelled too, so I dunno if she's sick or just doing something else today or what. It'd be nice if it was cancelled tomorrow....

Physics, though. Unfortunately, not cancelled. I hate this class. I was kinda like this during the whole thing today: @___@. And that moron guy? This time he nearly fell asleep (I could hear a bit of snoring) and when he woke up, he was picking ear wax out of his ears. It was disgusting. Anyway, I stayed after class to talk to the teacher and he didn't really answer my questions, but he's just weird and I don't like him so I just left. Oh, but the class after mine is taught by my old math teacher. He was so nice... I wish he taught my physics class and not the engineering one, or whatever specialized one he does.

Can you believe that I'm having trouble writing my 'Trauma' vignette this week? I don't usually have any problems with traumatic stuff. >.< The other one this week is 'Specimen', which is "a story telling one anecdote about a memorable character." Hmmmm.... *thinks* Any ideas?

And finally, voting for the mome awards - I am having so much trouble deciding which fic to vote for in the Billy/Dom Long Fiction category. THEY'RE ALL SO GOOD! I had slightly less trouble for the Short Fiction category, but still, those were all good too! I want to vote for them all. LOL

Oh wait, one more thing. I don't remember who I downloaded this song from, Everything's Alright (I Think It's Time) by Jude. But I really really love it, so thank you, whoever you are. Who would'a thunk I'd love such an uplifting song? My favorites usually tend towards angsty... :P

today was much with the wtf-ness.

Expandto and fro )

Anyway. That was my day at school. I recorded a voice post, but then people started talking to me, so I couldn't finish that. eta: but it posted anyway! Here it is. lol Now on to less boring stuff.

1. [livejournal.com profile] bloodrayveness has posted an RPS Fandom poll, which I really want you all to go vote in, because I'm very interested in everyone's answers.

2. Reading [livejournal.com profile] semaphore27's This Is The Way the World Ends (lotrips/the stand crossover) is probably not the best idea late at night. But it's so good. Oh, Dom.

3. I'm having trouble thinking of a good situation for my writing assignment this week, Last Lap: "Last Lap places the character, right in the opening lines, close to the climax of a series of events. So the story begins partway up the face of the cliff and not when your character, Arnold, first got interested in mountain climbing." It's quite an interesting prompt, but all I can think of now is mountain climbing. Any suggestions for a situation? Anyone? Anything?
silentdescant: (thinking)
So, after more than 20 hours in the car, I'm finally in Gillette, Wyoming. I'm not sure if that's how to spell Gillette, though... O.o Anyways, there was a lot of movie-watching in the car, and I'm almost sick of movies. Almost. LOL I'm so tired of being the in the car, especially with all the crap that was stuffed in there. *sigh*

In fic-ish news, I've written two new very short ficlets, but I'm not quite done editing them, and I'm working on editing the epilogue of another fic that I can't believe is finished in the first place. \o/ And all the forest fires made me think of Cautery, which I haven't read in forever, but I remember that I loved it, so I'm rereading that now. (there is a sequel as well, called Incendere, the link to which is the most recently posted thing at my del.icio.us page.)

That's it for now. The competition starts at like, 7:30 in the mornings every day until the end of the week, which SUCKS A LOT. so I better get to sleep. >.< G'night, flist! Talk to you all soon.

I don't care if you hate Eric or can't stand the thought of Orlando/Karl or whatever, YOU MUST READ THIS. Sean Bean's a detective and Dominic makes an appearance and Viggo is another major player in addition to Orlando, Eric, and Karl. And it's AU.

But it's only 4 chapters long and it's a mystery and it's AMAZING. So, read it.

*copied text*

LUNAR ECLIPSE--FULL COVERAGE: On Tuesday, Aug. 28th, the full Moon will enter Earth's shadow for a 90-minute total eclipse. People on the Pacific side of Earth will have the best view as the Moon turns a dreamy shade of sunset red. Favored areas include the Americas (especially western North America), Hawaii, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, east Asia and Antarctica. The show begins Tuesday morning around 2 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (0900 UT).

Although the dominant color of a lunar eclipse is red, sometimes another hue appears--turquoise. Earth's shadow has a turquoise-colored fringe caused by our planet's ozone layer, and this can be seen for a few beautiful moments at the onset of totality. Today's edition of spaceweather.com shows you what the turquoise fringe looks like and explains how to catch it.

Also, amateur astronomers are encouraged to assist NASA during the eclipse by scanning the darkened Moon for explosions caused by Helion meteoroid impacts. Typical flashes reach 6th magnitude--easy targets for mid-sized backyard telescopes equipped with digital video cameras. The eclipse is a great time to look for these "lunar meteors." Observing tips and more information are available at http://spaceweather.com

hm, i might try to stay up to watch that. maybe even get my telescope out of the closet. :)

in other news, [livejournal.com profile] kiltsandlollies's Offering, and its half-finished sequel, Schism: omg. Billy/Dom with Dom/Elijah, Dom/Sean Astin, and implied Sean/Elijah. the pairings kinda made me pause, but not for long and i was so glad i got over that initial reaction. probably not a good idea for more sensitive readers, though. lol i can't believe i hadn't read this before now!

and also, if you haven't read her Officer and Gentleman, you really really really should. the heavy angst, violence, and character death might scare some people off, though...

first chemistry test is today and i'm sensing a repeat of biology: reading the chapter (for the first time) about an hour before the test. oh what a fun year this is gonna be. i am really looking forward to starting italian in september, though.
