Title: I Want To Lay Like This Forever...
Pairing: Billy/Dominic
Rating: PG
Words: 1150
Summary: Dom realizes something.
A/N: It’s fluff! The song is Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden, and it begged me to write this fic.
Dom couldn’t sleep. He rolled out of bed and looked out his window. The moon was full and clear, high in the starry blue New Zealand sky. It was still warm outside, and the ground was soft. He decided to stargaze.
After checking in on Billy, who was asleep in the next room, Dom pulled on a pair of his stretchy yoga pants and went outside. The grass was soft beneath his toes, just as he had predicted. He sat down and looked towards the heavens. The stars were amazingly bright and clear, though the moon dulled their appearance somewhat by its glow. Dom leaned backwards until he fell over, and then stayed there, gazing up at the moon.
His thoughts returned to Billy. His thoughts seemed to be doing that a lot lately. And entirely without his permission, too. His heart believed Billy was perfect, though his mind knew better. Dom knew that Billy sometimes had a sharp temper and sometimes acted like a grown-up instead of the childish playmate Dom loved. He knew that Billy sometimes found him annoying, and while that thought stung a bit, Dom knew it was all his own fault.
All Dom wanted to do was make Billy happy and proud of him. Dom tried so hard, but he always seemed to fall short of what Billy really wanted. Without thinking, Dom began to hum under his breath.
I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish I'll be your fantasy.
I'll be your hope, I'll be your love be everything that you need.
I'll be your hope, I'll be your love be everything that you need.
He stopped, thinking hard. He realized the lyrics were true for him. I’ll be your love…
I love you more with every breath truly madly deeply do.
Bloody hell, he thought. I’m in love with my best friend. The thought wasn’t as unwelcome or as scary as he figured it should be. Dom realized then that his brain was simply catching up to his heart, which had loved Billy for a long time now.
His eyes turned to the stars again, and he resumed humming the song quietly, not wanting to drown out the sounds of the nature around him.

Billy heard Dom open his squeaky bedroom door and pad down the hall. A narrow shaft of moonlight appeared on the opposite wall from Billy, but he didn’t tell Dom he was awake. The light disappeared when the door closed and Billy listened to Dom go back to his own bedroom, then out again and through the back door.
Billy yawned and rubbed the remainders of sleep from his eyes. He didn’t turn on the light, instead he felt around for a t-shirt and jeans, which he pulled on quickly. Billy tiptoed down the hallway and watched Dom from the window. He was sitting in the grass, looking up at the moon. Billy chuckled silently when he saw Dom lean backwards until he fell onto his bare back. Billy watched Dom for another few moments, giving Dom a chance to collect his thoughts or whatever it was he was trying to accomplish out on the grass in the middle of the night, then Billy stepped quietly out onto the grass.
As he crept closer, Billy could see that Dom’s eyes were closed and he could hear Dom humming softly. After a moment, Billy recognized the song and began to sing the lyrics aloud to announce his presence.
“I will be strong I will be faithful 'cos I'm counting on a new beginning, a reason for living, a deeper meaning.”
Dom smiled when he heard Billy singing behind him, but he didn’t look up when Billy lay down beside him. They lay in silence for a moment, both of them looking up at the beautiful sky. Then Dom turned to look at his friend.
“Your shirt’s on backwards and inside out, Bill,” he murmured matter-of-factly. Billy looked down at his shirt and grinned.
“So it is, Dom. So it is.”
“Sorry if I woke you.”
“S’alright. Couldn’t sleep?”
“Yeah. Beautiful night, though, isn’t it?”
“It is. Are ye okay Dom? Ye seem kind of… melancholy,” Billy asked gently, leaning closer to Dom until he could feel the heat radiating off Dom’s body.
“I’m alright. I just realized something that I guess I’ve known for a while,” Dom replied vaguely, reaching out to touch Billy’s shoulder. “Thanks, though.”
“Was there a reason for the song or did it just pop into your head?”
“Both. It’s what made me realize that thing I’ve known for a while.” Dom grinned and his teeth glowed white in the darkness.
Without thinking, Billy leaned forward and touched his lips to Dom’s. Though his action was nothing new, Dom pulled back with an oddly blank expression on his face.
“Billy.”
“Dom?”
“I need to tell you something.”
“I’m not stopping ye,” Billy prompted when Dom didn’t continue.
“I want to stand with you on a mountain. I want to bathe with you in the sea. I want to lay like this forever, until the sky falls down on me…” he muttered, not meeting Billy’s eyes. “Billy, I… Oh hell, Billy, I love you,” Dom finally said in a rush. They lay in uncomfortable silence for a moment while Dom’s words sunk in.
“Dommeh.”
“Yeah, Bill?”
“I love ye too, Dom. And I’ve stood with you on a mountain, I’ve bathed with ye in the sea, and I’m laying here with ye now. So we’ll just lay here until the sky falls down on us, aye?” Billy said gently, his arm curling around Dom’s shoulders. Dom laughed softly and kissed the tip of Billy’s nose.
“We don’t have to stay forever, Billy. Just until Feet.”
“Well that’s not very long!” Billy raised his arm and squinted at his watch. “We’ve got three hours.”
“That’s forever to me, Billy. Hey, sing that song again. I want to hear your voice.” Dom whispered, closing his eyes. He laid his head against Billy’s chest and felt Billy kiss the top of his head.
“And when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky, I'll make a wish, send it to heaven, then make you want to cry. The tears of joy for all the pleasure and the certainty, that we're surrounded by the comfort and protection of the highest power, in lonely hours, the tears devour you…”
Billy continued singing quietly until Dom’s breathing evened out and Billy knew he was asleep. He rubbed Dom’s back gently, savoring the feeling of Dom’s skin beneath his fingertips.
“Ye are my dreams, my wishes, my hopes, and my fantasies, Dommeh. Ye’re my love, ye’re everything I’ll ever need, and I love ye more with every breath. I love ye,” Billy whispered against Dom’s hair. Dom murmured sleepily and curled closer around Billy’s body. “I love ye,” Billy repeated. “I’ll lay here forever with ye, Dommeh. Until the sky falls down on us.”
