OH MY GOD.

(I have a photo of this too, but I dun wanna bother with downloading and uploading and all that)

Drexel U: HI JENNIFER, WE WANT YOU VERY MUCH. COME HERE NOW PLS, KTHX.

"In acknowledgement of your academic success, I am pleased to name you as an A.J. Drexel Scholar. A.J. Drexel Scholars are a select group of highly qualified students. As an A.J. Drexel Scholar, you will receive an academic scholarship in the amount of $14,500.00." (renewable annually provided I maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.)

"Along with my colleagues in the Pennoni Honors College, I would like to also extend to you admission to the University Honors Program."

Well, now I'm 2 for 2. I almost wish I'd applied to more places just to see if I'd get in. LOL!

This makes things a bit interesting, though. I really want to go to SCAD, like, REALLY, but this Drexel acceptance with honors is pretty good... SCAD's still my first choice, though. The impression I got while visiting both was that SCAD had a... more high-tech, if not better all around, film program. Not to mention all the other stuff. Drexel was cool, but SCAD was cooler, I think.

Drexel sent me more stuff, LOL. SCAD's letter was just the letter and nothing else, but Drexel sent all these pamphlets and a cool folder and stuff. :P

finals are over!!! and both of them went a lot better than I expected. although, last night, I was worried about how NOT worried I was... I don't get test anxiety or anything, but I thought it was a bit strange to be so laid back about them. but they both went very well, so I have high hopes for decent grades. for the math, most of the stuff was just easy, though there were a couple that I didn't quite know how to do. but oh, the joy of multiple-choice questions: GUESSING. I'm usually a good guesser. LOL Italian was kind of the same; I just knew most of the stuff on the test. the teacher gave us little cards that we could use as a free answer for any question, but only one question, so we had to use it wisely. when I was done with the test, I had a couple little trouble spots, of course, but I didn't really know what to ask her. I finally settled on irregular verbs, because I'm absolutely sure that I got several of those wrong. so she helped me with one, which in turn helped me with another, but then I just gave up because I really don't know those fucking irregular verbs.

and then when I came home, I found a present from my mom. I think she decided it was going to be a present kind of arbitrarily, because she wanted to get me this anyway, lol. it's a single book with the complete Dark Materials trilogy, which is The Golden Compass and two others. (are they making a movie out of the other two, or just The Golden Compass?) anyway, I've not read it before, and my mom was surprised because when she started reading it a few weeks ago, she said it was exactly the kind of book I'd love. so now I'm on chapter 3 and I love it already. :P hopefully I can finish it before we go see the movie.

also, cute guy emailed me back and said that he couldn't come to the movie because of a prior engagement. :( he was all apologetic and sweet, though, which was nice. I've also kept up an email conversation with him, so hopefully we can get together some other time. :)

and also, EPGY just recently sent my transcript from them to SCAD and Drexel. damn them for holding up my applications. it was supposed to be sent already! >.<

now, it's back off to bed with me and my book, and I don't have to get up early tomorrow. YAY
silentdescant: (yay!)
there are so many things that have contributed to my insane gleefulness today. here's a few:

The Incline of Trees (formerly lotruniversity) is being updated with edited, complete posts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. *cue MASSIVE FLAILING and possible SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION*

It's confirmed: Eric Bana and Karl Urban are going to be in Star Trek together! (link via [livejournal.com profile] legomyarrow) For those The Archer/The Flag fans on my flist, MAJOR YAY.

[livejournal.com profile] push_pull_push has been updated, and OH MY GOD, if you're not reading that fic yet, YOU SHOULD BE. It is seriously hot, both this chapter and the story on the whole.

Brokeback Mountain came in the mail today, so I can FINALLY WATCH IT. (soon, anyway)

I've written a History Boys ficlet, a CSI ficlet, and a bdsm-y Monaboyd ficlet, and they all just have to be edited before I post them. \o/ Also, I posted RunAway today, which is always a source of great yay.

I think my SCAD essay is nearing completion. I sure as hell hope it is, anyway.
silentdescant: (to do list)

fucking college entrance essays. i've about 375 of the required 500 words, and i dunno if it's complete crap or what. gushing about the school and my future goals (of which i'm still unsure) just doesn't sound right. i say that a lot when i'm writing essays. it's not like fiction, where it doesn't really matter what the words say as long as they flow and sound natural and make sense. i get by on writing fiction mostly be feel. essays are a load of really annoying crap that takes actual brain work. at least, my essays are.

in addition, i haven't done my math homework for tomorrow, and i had a take-home test (open book! a week to complete it!) that i haven't started yet and that i have to turn in tomorrow. oh fuckin' hell.

also, there is a really adorable guy in my studio class that i was flirting with like, the entire time. wtf. and i haven't had much of a conversation with tony in a while and that's a bit odd and i kinda miss him. :( of course, i'm sure that'll change once he gets back from wherever he is. *headdesk*

i think i should note that i'm only working on the essay for scad at the moment. drexel needs one too, as does wsu. kill me nowwwwww.

edit: okay, i have 2 more rants. 1) lj, what the fuck is going on with my layout? it's like... not adjusting properly. stupid lj problems. and 2) i've not lost any more weight in a while. i am a carb queen. >.< my mom figures my after-school headaches are from sugar withdrawal. ugh.

silentdescant: (yay!)
omfg. nearly every staff person my dad and I encountered was so fucking incompetent. nobody knew what the hell was going on and we finally found the check-in area almost by sheer chance. it was in the BASEBALL stadium, wtf? anyways, we got our little badges and sat in the stands and listened for a while to some boring, absolutely predictable speeches and then we finally got to have lunch. except there was so much noise that we couldn't really talk as a group around the table, so sitting with some old alumni guy was really... not very interesting. so, after lunch we're getting bored and we decide why not just go and have the free ice cream and check out the football stadium (we've never been in before). the ice cream was the best part. LOL then we went to a little academic fair thing and the people THERE had no clue what they were talking about, even when we asked questions! "uh.... you can check out the website for more information..." oh shut up. boring as hell. so we waited around until the stadium opened and only then did we look at our tickets.

imagine a football stadium with about 3 tiers of stands. now put me and my dad at the top of the third tier. that's about where our seats were. so we pretty much said no right then, but we went up to the top anyway, just to see. OMG IT'S FUCKING HIGH UP. AND STEEP. and there was no way in hell I would've willingly sat there for more than five minutes. so then after carefully climbing down (we should've used harnesses and rope!) we took an express elevator down to the field level and hung out there for a few minutes. and then we left, because we're so not sports people.

and we went to see a movie instead! MUCH MORE FUN. we saw Death at a Funeral, which is a British black comedy and omg it was HILARIOUS. I'm so glad it came back to theaters here; it was here during the film festival but only at the beginning, so I missed it then. minor review-type spoilers )

so that was it. except now I have a headache because I think I've had too much caffeine and not enough food. *sigh* that was so much better than sitting through a football game omg. and now I feel like a bit of a rebel because of skipping out on the game. hahahahaha

but seriously, Death at a Funeral: FTFW. go see it if it's at a theater anywhere near you.

in other news... I feel so apathetic towards, well, everything lately. I finished Lord of the Rings, so I went to look for another book to read, and none of the ones on my bookshelf piqued my interest at all, even though I bought them in the first place. I've written very little unless in a fit of inspiration, and reading through my WIPs isn't helping. Then of course, there's schoolwork, which I can't concentrate on at all. I have 3 math programs I'm supposed to be working through, and I've done about half an hour of each... over the last three days. And now I have to write my personal statement for my SCAD application, which requires talking about my personal and educational experiences as well as my personal and professional goals and aspirations. At the moment, I can't even think of a goal, which is dumb, because I know I have goals. I just seem to have forgotten them or something. *headdesk* I think my vacation was too long; it hasn't left me any time to just veg out and have a meltdown during the summer. I want to melt. I feel like melting. Only, I don't have time to melt, which is so stupid of me because I've been doing nothing but waste time since I got back, pretty much.

It feels like things have changed, but I don't know how. But nothing's really changed, has it?
silentdescant: (to do list)
First off, thank you soooo much to whoever nominated one of my fics at the MOME Awards. !!! I hadn't even thought about awards or anything like that, so again, thank you very much for the nomination. It means quite a lot to me. :)

Well, I'm now back from vacation, but you wouldn't know it by my LJ activities, would you? So, a general sort of update about my trip (not in chronological order, mind you): SCAD was awesome and it's now my top choice of school (except it was hot, but even that wasn't as bad as I was expecting); Drexel was alright, but not exactly... right. *shrug*; spending time with my dad's extended family was fantastic (mom's side of the family was mostly-fun, but annoying and boring at times. >.<); spending time with Tony (and David) was really great fun, especially the fact that I got to be with them on my birthday and we could just hang out and go out to movies and play poker late into the night and stuff.

General update for back home: haven't unpacked yet; being on the east coast did NOT help jetlag-wise as it should have done, which is quite annoying, really, because I was hoping waking up early wouldn't be so hard now; already starting schoolwork, specifically, SAT prep and Geometry and anything else my mom wants to pile on; classes are starting entirely too soon in my opinion, even though I'm starting to look forward to them - I'm just not ready yet!

And finally, a note for today, I've finally finished reading Lord of the Rings. WOO. And then I watched the end of RotK from the scene right before "The Eagles are coming!" on to the end, and then I just had to watch some of the DVD extras. So yeah, I spent about 2 hours doing all that. But now it's all over and I can finally say I've finished the books. I loved how Merry was all heroic and 'take-charge' in The Scouring of the Shire. Very cool.

Anyway, that's all for now. I've had astoundingly little time to mess around on the computer and do some of the things that I said I would, which really sucks, but hopefully that'll change soon, once I get into more of a routine. I'm sloooowly catching up on some of the new fics or new chapters of fics that have been posted, which is fun, but I feel so behind. >.<

Also, Raquel, we had more luck of being online at the same times when I was on vacation than now!! I miss youuuu.

I found out when my flight was. Tuesday morning at 7am, which means I have to leave here at like.. 5.30 or something. IN THE MORNING. apparently, my mom is insane. it might actually be easier for me to stay up until I have to leave rather than try to WAKE UP at zero-o'clock in the morning. omg i hate mornings. especially since I've been staying up until about 2am every night. jet-lag is going to KILL me.

to do list )

things i should always keep in my purse )

things i need to pack )

ETA: apparently I have to have college applications ready for when I visit Drexel and SCAD. OMGWTF RIGHT NOW?? I don't have application essays AT ALL, I don't have any of the forms filled out, and I don't have all my portfolio stuff ready yet. *headdesk*

and there's probably more, but hopefully I'll either remember it later, or it's not extremely vital. also, I'm going to wear a light blazer-type jacket on the plane, but that's the only long-sleeved thing I'm bringing. do'ya think I need another jacket, or is my family right in thinking that it'll be SUPER DEADLY HOT and I won't need it in Philadelphia and Atlanta?

also, last night I watched the new Monk and Psych episodes. monk and psych spoilers )
silentdescant: (so exciting omg)
my computer's internet has been DISABLED, so the only way i can get online is on one of the laptops, which i can't use very often. *HEADDESK* so, SORRY i haven't been commenting or updating or anything else. >.< this sucks.

but anyway. HARRY POTTER OMG. got tickets to a midnight show on tuesday, and i watched SS on abc yesterday, and am watching CoS now. PoA is on tomorrow, and then luckily i have GoF for monday night, and theeeennnn ORDER OF THE PHOENIX YAAAAAY. i've also started listening to the OotP audiobook, but i should just skip around in the cds because i don't have time to listen to the whole thing. lol

also, my AP biology scores came back last week. the scores are out of 5, and a 3 is a passing score, and will usually get counted for credit so i can exempt out of biology classes at college. d'you guys remember how much goofing off i did during biology? and how much i hated it? i would'a been ecstatic with a 3. and i got a 4. A FUCKING FOUR. I got a four. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? I GOT A FOUR. *\o/*

i also now have 2 new pairs of shoes, and they are the cutest shoes EVER. :P i need to start PACKING omg. i leave for philadelphia in just over a week. i somehow have to fit everything i'm going to bring into one (small) suitcase and one carry-on. oh, and speaking of this trip, i finished the painting of my grandparents!! yay. i'm pretty happy with it, even though grandma doesn't quite look right. lol

oh, and! besides SCAD, there's now another school that i'm looking at, though i haven't really done a lot of research about it yet. it's in boston, which is cool, because i love boston and the north-east. anyway, it's called Emerson i think, or Emery or something. LOL! i haven't really looked at it yet! :P

college quarter grades and SAT scores!!! I win. :D except, I'm going to take the SAT again in the fall because I wanna do better. >.< I think I'm also gonna take the ACT then too, which is like the SAT, only not really. LOL anyway, onto the scores...

this quarter's grades )

SAT scores )

oh, so, a random funny story about the SAT: the room I took it in was an English-as-a-second-language classroom, so there were alphabet posters and stuff that you might find in an elementary school. anyway. it's me and about 12 other teenagers, and we have to copy out this statement that says we won't cheat or whatever. except the rule states that it has to be copied out IN CURSIVE. >.< the funny/sad part: barely any of us could WRITE in cursive, and we had to use those stupid posters in order to write the letters correctly. LOL printing is so much better. and typing's even better than that. cursive is just... hard. lol it took us longer than the allotted time to complete the statement. >.< hahahahaha

college search stuff )

also, an interesting and amusing tidbit: Tony's parents (and mine) all went to Georgia Tech, whose mascot is a yellow jacket; SCAD's mascot is a bee; and the place where Tony wants to go, Southern Polytechnic, has a hornet. I find that very amusing. LOL goes to show how easily amused I am...

also! thank you all for the feel-better-wishes and the prompts! am working on those now. and I do feel better. :) ♥
silentdescant: (oh crap)
I'm seriously going to stop posting twenty times a day. Really, I am. just. not yet. lol last one of the night, I promise.

- phone's completely run out of batteries. hopefully it will be charged enough by tomorrow morning.
- I'M completely run out of batteries. >.< taking one pill tonight instead of two because I don't wanna be fuzzy in the morning. down to the last set of dayquil for tomorrow... hopefully it'll last through the whole test. wouldn't want to start coughing and sneezing right at the end. >.<
- one last practice test tonight, then I have to wake up at 5:30 or 6 in time to leave at 7 in time for the test at 8 (I think).
- I just found out that WSU will count a grade of 3 as biology credit, which is a requirement for that college, so IF I get a 3 or better and IF I end up going to that school (probably not, but it's gonna be a safe school, I think), I will exempt out of biology. which is a VERY GOOD THING.

it ends here tonight. is that from a Howie Day song? NO, it's from an evanescence song. which I haven't listened to in forever. >.< actually, for me it ends tomorrow morning, but 'tonight' sounds more poetic.

Jill, I saw your post but haven't had time to read it yet! I'll reply tomorrow after I get home. :)

ps: hahahaha, my current music is "hope fails" >.< how bloody ironic.

eta: OKAY I REMEMBERED. At the SIFF thing today, I WON SOMETHING. I was all "OMG RLY?" LOL. I had a ticket taped under my chair, so I went up to the front desk and she pulls out this huge bag and is like "Oooh yay, here's some swag!" The contents: Turner Classic Movies SceneIt (OMG YAY, even though I already have the original SceneIt; my dad will love this one. also, I can't believe they're giving away SCENEIT! lol), a SIFF t-shirt (and omg, it's my size. O_O), a $3 Starbucks Gift Card (meh, whatever. I'll use it sometime, I guess.), and two MORE tickets to the Janus Film Festival (I already have a bunch from volunteering and going to that other swag thing.), oh, and also, a pen. LOL!

English Expository whatever the class title is >.<
  • um.. not much goin' on here yet.

  • readings to do, but haven't done them so far. >.<
Psychology
  • semi-yay for interesting textbooks! and I'd read about John Locke (Lost) being named after a psychology person, but now that this John Locke is in my textbook, it's phenomenally more interesting. lol

  • the prof sounds nice, but she seems to expect a lot. >.<
Biology
  • do I even have to say anything here?

  • approx. 5 weeks until death.

Other news: yay for flatscreen monitors. I have sooo much more room on my desk now, and I even organized my little bookshelf thingy with all my current textbooks instead of the ones from three years ago! \o/ Also, computer memory got fixed a bit, so my computer's much faster now. \o/ Also, WSU visit on... Friday. Dunno how it's gonna go, as I've never really visited a college before as a prospective student. O.o

Raquel news: She got off the plane and the locals immediately recognized her as queen and declared their loyalty. Revolt expected. ♥
silentdescant: (thinking)
First day of class. yay! For the one "class" I have on-campus, I have the same instructor as my last quarter's scriptwriting class, and since he was my FAVORITE EVER, this is a Very Good Thing. The class is: Media & Messages, and he's gonna talk about things like how colour schemes affect emotion and stuff like that. Today, he talked about violence and censorship, so that was interesting. An interesting note that I kinda already knew: in the US, it's pretty much okay to show violence, but NO SEX WHATSOEVER, whereas in the UK, you can show sex, only no (or less) violence. >.<

My other two classes are both online, which is both good and bad. Today, I tried to go online to check everything out and get assignments, but there was a problem. A couple of Vista's servers are down, so NOBODY has access to the online classes. >.< This is what my tech-support email said:

Instructors are getting updates every few hours via the faculty list serve we have for them. Everyone is in the same situation, and the suggestion from my office staff is to "read chapter 1 and then try again later tonight or tomorrow."

LOL, good advice, techies. *giggles* Hopefully everything will be working tomorrow. >.<

My last class starts tomorrow; the Movie Making class, where we'll be making a movie from start to finish, using a script written by a girl in my script class (who also happens to be in this Media & Messages class). Dunno how that's gonna work out. Annoying Old Guy from last quarter's classes is apparently going to take this class, so that'll be a nightmare. Oh, and Annoying Superman Guy is in Media & Messages. OH FUN. I asked him about his grades from the last class (because I didn't really rate him very high on the peer review), and he said he hasn't even checked yet! I was very "wtf!?" because when your grades come out, you go check them ASAP, right? I certainly do. >.<

Biology is still teh suckage, so nothing new to report there. Other than class has been moved from Friday to Wednesday this week, because I'm gonna be gone on Friday. And Sat and Sun. Somewhere in that time, I'm going to take some kind of tour of WSU, which means I need to do a little tiny bit of research on their media/english program before I go. >.<

And I just realized I ended every paragraph with a ">.<" LOL and now it looks like it has ears. O.o

Also, I haven't replied to comments yet. I'm sorry! I'll be dealing with some email/comments shortly...

eta: oh, Billy, PLEASE DO THIS this year. thank you. *diez* LOL
ps: nsfw, btw.

day two...

Feb. 24th, 2007 11:54 pm
silentdescant: (shhh!)
*flops ...again*

loooong day again. but I only got really tired once, during a little boring video that we watched about the Strong Interest test. I got my Meyers-Briggs results back; I'm a cross between ISTJ (mostly) and INTJ (a little bit). a lot happened, but I'm too tired right now to go into details.

so then the play, seen (and filmed) for the second time. well, I will say that the actors were better this time, but still not the greatest. and none of them could do a good NY accent. >.<

speaking of NY, Pratt U sounds like a perfect match for me, with their writing major and film production courses too. only problem is they're pretty selective and expensive. also, NY isn't nice to homeschoolers: I have te do GED and SAT2 subject tests and SAT and AP and all kinds of stuff. >.< UCLA requires (I think) THREE SAT2 subject tests, though.

ps: I started reading The Stand during a break in class today. I didn't get very far, but I can already tell that I like it. *g*
silentdescant: (angst)
problem number 1: my group is getting NOTHING done. and now one of the guys says he wants to add something to the ending, but it totally doesn't need it and it's not that great besides. hopefully we'll be able to have a team meeting during class tomorrow.

problem number 2: my ear is driving me FUCKING INSANE. it keeps getting stuffed up, like in high altitudes, but it won't go awaaaaay. it's been doing this for about a WEEK I think. every now and then it'll get better for a while, but the stuffiness won't go away completely, so I know it'll come back... and I've been rubbing my ear so much I think it's fucking bruised. *bangs head against wall*

problem number 3: why must college searches be so bloody difficult? there should be one college for each subject. find what you're interested in, go to that college. wouldn't that be nice?

stupid ear.

on the flip side, being temporarily deaf in one ear is inspiring a fic.

um, what?

poked my head into my mom and dad's bedroom to say goodnight. the following is the ACTUAL conversation my mom and I had.

me: I'm goin' to bed.
mom: why?
*wtf?*
me: uh, because I'm tired.
mom: why are you tired?
*wtf again?*
me: beeeecause it's eleven at night? >.< goodnight!

yeah, it actually kinda fits in with some earlier ponderings of mine, but I'll whine about that later.

ps: College Search update - I've eliminated about five colleges out of somewhere around fifty so far. *headdesk*
