silentdescantso I was blocked from registering for classes because of an apparent overdue library fine. the problem? I've never checked anything out from the library, and I certainly wouldn't be checking out a Journal of Middle East International something or other. called the library, called the school, called my specific department within that, and they finally got it fixed. navigating the phone menus for the school wasn't too horrible, but last night my mom tried to talk to Dell about her laptop and there's so many problems with the situation there that I can't even explain it. >.<
ah, so about last night - it was the attack of the isams, as I called it in the notebook where I was writing down all the procedures. my computer got hijacked by this SpyDawn system and it was running a whole shitload of annoying processes starting with "isam". luckily I was chatting with Raquel at the time and she helped me fix everything. ♥ After much rebooting and Safe Mode-ing, the isam were killed and the SpyDawn was eradicated. \o/ if that ever happens to you, search for SmitFraudFix.exe on Google; the site I used was siri.geekstogo.com/smitfraudfix.php, but there are other sites that talk you through the procedure.
for future reference, the exact isam processes are: isamini.exe, isamntr.exe, and isamonitor.exe.
also, the folder I had to delete was: C:\Program Files\Video Access ActiveX Objects\
