of teeth and tiredness...

Went to dentist's today to get a filling. My first. Because I'm a bit freaked out by anything medical, I asked what *exactly* they were going to do to me. Mum's never had one, but my dad has, and last night he was all "Yeah, they stick the needle for the medicine into your gums and it hurts like hell, but then you're like 'oooooh, yeah.' but then they drill and it hurts like hell again." So, I was even more freaked out, and getting squeamish about the needles. I don't like needles, and to have one stuck in my gums.... Yeah. Anyway, I get there, and there's a nice Asian doctor there (mine's on holiday for the week), and she says "I can do this without the anesthetic, if you want." The first thought that goes through my mind is "No Fucking Way, lady," but she explains the pros and cons (either have basically no control over my jaw for the rest of the day and have the pain of the needle in my gum, or no horrible needle and possibly no pain, and i can stop for the medicine if I need it) and I decide NO NEEDLE. In all actuality, it wasn't much different than past dental visits. I think it helps that I've had braces on and off, so I'm kind of used to people poking around at my teeth. I only had to use my relaxation techniques a couple of times; it wasn't too bad. I apparently have the ability to calm myself down by simply concentrating on breathing, and reminding myself that Yes, these people are doctors, and if I choke or something, how bad can it get? and that I could stop and ask for the medication at any time. But I didn't. And now I have bragging rights. *grin*
Of course, then I got home and ate two doughnuts. Can you get anything *more* sugary?
I have a week free from visitors. And I finished my final essay just in time to send it in; got an A- overall for the course (the last course was B+, so I've improved!). I was happy with it. Now, I have a relatively free week, although I have to re-clean the house before the next set of people come.
One of my birthday presents is to spend an entire day with Erin, out at Bellevue Square, seeing a movie and doing basically just girl-stuff. Yay. Need to hang out more.
But now I'm tired and thinking of watching a bit of TV later.... 'Cause I'm lazy like that.
