The following is my review of Troy, starring all kinds of pretty people...

Contains spoilers.

Hmm, Troy. I must say, it's a bit predictable. (That was a joke.) This movie had high points and low points for me. They are as follows...

High Point 1: Eric Bana. Need I say more? I officially love him now. Hector is pretty much the ultimate hero of this movie, although the way they showed it, it was kind of hard to pick a side. This leads me into High Point 2: Sean Bean. He was very Boromir-ish a lot of the time. Kind of strange, really, but I liked him, even if he made picking sides a nightmare. As for Legolas--sorry, Orlando,--he was a whiny idiot a lot of the time and why he couldn't use a sword properly, I don't know. I see this as a Low Point, but Orlando redeemed himself in the end by being beautiful and channeling Legolas in a non-Rings movie. The guy knows how to use a bow, I'll give him that. Low Point 2: Brad Pitt. Now, I liked Pitt in movies such as Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and I think he's hot, just like any other fangirl, but everything about him in this movie seemed flat. I think he could've shown a bit more emotion and... something, anything, other than his patented "I'm about to kill you" look.

Some of the sets were nice, but some were crap. Some of the special effects were nice,  but some were crap. Like the boats on the water. That was absolute crap. That scene right there made me think it was a made-for-TV movie. The sword-fighting and other battle techniques were nicely done, though I can't say I liked the weird slow-motion leap-and-stab moves from Pitt. The cinematography wasn't horrible, but it wasn't spectacular either, and they didn't really try anything new with it. A few scenes looked straight out of Rings, particularly the sweeping crane move over the Trojan Wall as the Spartans rushed through the open door. Was anyone else reminded of Helm's Deep, or was it just me? Also, the zooming in on Sean Bean was exactly the same as in Fellowship, and Sean even had the same expression on his face. Lots of things about this movie reminded me of Rings, and I don't think it's just because I'm LotR-obsessed, either. Though it was weird to see Legolas and Boromir fighting against each other...

So, while I love the story and the near-naked shots of extremely hot men, overall, I'm going to give Troy a 6 out of ten stars.
