Okay, so as some of you probably know, I'm in a playwriting class right now (and it is awesome), and we basically bring in scenes every class period and read them and critique them, and talk about writing processes and techniques and do some workshopping and basically it's the most fun class ever. BUT anyway, today we were talking about an article about like, people being afraid to write politically-driven plays, and afraid to touch certain topics, and afraid to break out of their shell, that sort of thing. And it got me thinking! Not just about that, because we also did some interesting outlining excersizes. So.... RAMBLING AHEAD. Lots of thinky thoughts about my own writing and stuff. But I really really want to hear about YOUR processes, because this is all very fascinating to me.

blah blah blah I talk a lot )

I thiiiiink I'm just about talked out (thank god, right?). I kind of feel like there was another writing topic I wanted to address, but now I can't remember, and I don't want to get too disjointed and rambly (even more than this already is). I want to hear about your experiences! Your processes! Your hopes and dreams and inspirations! EVERYTHING. I love hearing about how writers work. Tell me things. :)

I have heard good things and scary things about [livejournal.com profile] thesamefire's In The Walls.

Is this fic going to scare the living shit out of me?

I am going to read it, because I've always wanted a good Paramour fic. But this is me wondering if I should start it at night before I try and sleep, or wait until I have time to read during the day when I'm slightly less likely to be scared out of my mind. O.O

does anyone use hulu or fancast? are either any good? i want to be able to watch stuff on my computer when i go to school, but i'm not sure if they have what i'm looking for.

also, i have a new laptop, which i've named Jeeves. it is ever so lovely, and i'm learning how to use Vista.

also, my grandparents have left. so i am free again. finally. \o/

f-list, I need your help. Well, your opinions and advice, anyway. Specifically, those of you who have laptops. I'm looking for a laptop to take to school with me and I don't know what kinds of things I really need it to have.

What I use a computer for: writing, mainly; messing around with photoshop and a few hi-res pictures; watching DVDs/video files; surfing the internet. So, no graphics-intensive games, nothing like that. What I'm not sure about is how good at multitasking I need it to be; I multitask with Word documents and Internet Explorer windows, but not usually a bunch of different programs at the same time... So I'm not sure.

I was considering the HP Mini-Note because it has a keyboard that's like, 92% the size of a normal keyboard, BUT, I've heard some not-great things about its capabilities in other areas. >.< My mom suggested a tablet, but while I think that's cool and everything, if I want to write longhand, I'll do it on paper. I'm really good at typing, and I love typing (more than writing by hand), so whatever I choose, I want it to have a good keyboard.

And while I've used Apple computers before, I haven't worked with them extensively, and I grew up on Windows, so... I don't know how I feel about switching. I'm open to it, though, if there's a laptop that seems like the best option for me.

So! What are your opinions on laptops? Brands? Specific models? Are there good things and bad things that stand out for you? Are there features you feel you really need, or that are superfluous? Can you make a really good argument for Macs? :P

I suck at classic literature. I hated (HATED) The Invisible Man, and I got bored with Jane Austen and never finished anything I started by her, and I couldn't get into stuff like Uncle Tom's Cabin (who's that by, Harriet Beecher Stowe?). But everybody seems to have an author or a book that they've LOVED, or that changed their life, or something, and I don't. :( So, because I suck at literature, can you recommend anything? This goes for poetry as well (I haven't really read anything seriously...).

hmmm...

sorry to spam you, my lovely f-list, but i have a question for you. I have recently acquired a locket that's about 1.25 inches tall and 1 inch wide and I don't know what I want to put in it yet. I was thinking that I'd rather not do pictures, or maybe just one picture, with the other side for a quote or something. which brings me to my question: what quote (or quotes) should i put in? I was thinking maybe a line from a movie or a book or a fic or something, but most of the things I could think of were too long for the locket. so, any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. :)

I have a LotR book 6 test to take today and I'm only in chapter 1. >.< But anyway, it got me thinking about invisibility. This is such a random question omg. But pls to be humouring me?

Harry's Invisibility Cloak - This makes a ton of sense to me. It's a cloak that makes everything under it, no matter what it is, invisible. So, if you're too tall, your feet will show. If you pick up something and put it underneath, it too will be invisible. However, what about when it's just lying around? I don't get that. Shouldn't it be invisible all the time? Like, when Harry folds it up and puts it away and stuff?

The One Ring - This does not make sense to me at all. It makes the wearer invisible, right? But it also makes their clothes invisible, and stuff their holding (Frodo's sword, Sam's pack, etc.). But... it doesn't just make everything the invisible person touches invisible, does it? I mean, if Frodo picked up a rock while he was invisible, would it disappear too? And to further this, if the Ring turns everything the wearer touches invisible, why don't the floor of buildings and the rocks he climbs over disappear?

Personal Powers - This makes more sense, I think. Because usually it's just the person going invisible, not their clothes or things they touch. But this does have the problem of stripping down every time the person goes invisible. And I haven't seen Fantastic Four, but didn't the girl like, get a suit that went invisible too? or something? I wanna see that movie. and the sequel that's coming out soon. lol

So I guess my question is this: where does invisibility end? Is it just an arbitrary line drawn in the sand? "Everything up to this point can disappear, but nothing else"?

Therefore, a poll.

DISCUSS.

ps: FotR tomorrow omgyay!! I don't know why I'm so excited, because I literally just watched it on TV, but YAY ANYWAY.

pps: I still have Charlie's Death Anthem (aka Run) on repeat. *sniff*

ppps: Apparently I am becoming obsessed with italics. *giggles*

am posting quite a lot, aren't i? but nothing of real substance, unfortunately. lol

1) i have a question. does anybody have "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys? thank you, [livejournal.com profile] giddy_london!!

2) actually i have 2 questions. next quarter i have to start a foreign language. i'm having trouble deciding between italian and german. HELP ME!! both are 5-day-a-week classes, so i can't really get out of that. i love italian, and i've taken latin before, and i AM italian, and my aunt speaks it fluently, so those are all good things. but i also love german. my mom has taken german (but she says she forgot it all), and i know of a few people taking german (whereas nobody i know is taking italian), plus, of course, dom knows german (and i'd be lying if i said i didn't think about that). both aren't really 'useful' unless i visit italy or germany, so there's no real pros or cons there. but i just CAN'T DECIDE! so i have a poll. i can't say for sure whether i will go with the outcome of this poll, but i like polls and i wanna know what you think, so here ya go.

gift card

I have a gift card for Best Buy and I don't know what to get. I'm thinking a couple CDs or movies. I'd want a movie that I've seen before, but I'm having one of those mind-blanks where I can't remember any that I like. Any suggestions?

also, I'm debating the pros and cons of buying the LotR LE set. On the one hand, I have a perfectly fantastic box set of all three extended editions, which I love and watch at every chance I get. On the other hand, I really want to see that behind the scenes documentary. so, people that have the DVDs, are the special features worth $80?
