First off, thank you soooo much to whoever nominated one of my fics at the MOME Awards. !!! I hadn't even thought about awards or anything like that, so again, thank you very much for the nomination. It means quite a lot to me. :)

Well, I'm now back from vacation, but you wouldn't know it by my LJ activities, would you? So, a general sort of update about my trip (not in chronological order, mind you): SCAD was awesome and it's now my top choice of school (except it was hot, but even that wasn't as bad as I was expecting); Drexel was alright, but not exactly... right. *shrug*; spending time with my dad's extended family was fantastic (mom's side of the family was mostly-fun, but annoying and boring at times. >.<); spending time with Tony (and David) was really great fun, especially the fact that I got to be with them on my birthday and we could just hang out and go out to movies and play poker late into the night and stuff.

General update for back home: haven't unpacked yet; being on the east coast did NOT help jetlag-wise as it should have done, which is quite annoying, really, because I was hoping waking up early wouldn't be so hard now; already starting schoolwork, specifically, SAT prep and Geometry and anything else my mom wants to pile on; classes are starting entirely too soon in my opinion, even though I'm starting to look forward to them - I'm just not ready yet!

And finally, a note for today, I've finally finished reading Lord of the Rings. WOO. And then I watched the end of RotK from the scene right before "The Eagles are coming!" on to the end, and then I just had to watch some of the DVD extras. So yeah, I spent about 2 hours doing all that. But now it's all over and I can finally say I've finished the books. I loved how Merry was all heroic and 'take-charge' in The Scouring of the Shire. Very cool.

Anyway, that's all for now. I've had astoundingly little time to mess around on the computer and do some of the things that I said I would, which really sucks, but hopefully that'll change soon, once I get into more of a routine. I'm sloooowly catching up on some of the new fics or new chapters of fics that have been posted, which is fun, but I feel so behind. >.<

Also, Raquel, we had more luck of being online at the same times when I was on vacation than now!! I miss youuuu.

mini-rant about lost... well, more about the theorists, really )

ok, so anyway. last week of classes is this week and next week is finals (of which i only have one, i think), so OMGYAY.

my schedule )

also, my mom and i looked at my grades so far for psychology and media & messages and if i can pull out a high-B or (hopefully) an A, i'll get an A in both of those classes. \o/ i got a 97/100 for my research project in psych, but none of the other students commented on it, which makes me sad. >.< and i have no idea where i'm at for english, because i can't even stomach looking at all the things i've missed...

i'll talk about my film shoots later, because OMG I HAVE TO STUDY NOW. and i know i say i'll do stuff later ALL THE TIME, and then never do, but it's the last week of classes, so after this, i'll have about ten years of free time. LOL

LotR is amazing. Can't really say a whole lot more than that at the moment because my mind is mush. But, we did end up watching the Dom/Elijah easter egg and both Fellowship of the Cast and A Day in the Life of a Hobbit, so that was pretty awesome. Especially since the person who stayed long enough to watch them both had never seen them before. lol!

I will admit to tearing up a bit at the end. Actual tears, unlike the dry-eyed kind of thing I did for Lost (I just couldn't cry!!). But though I got a bit misty at the Frodo/Sam "End of All Things" scene, I actually cried when Dom Merry started crying at the Grey Havens. Also, when Merry and Eowyn are about to go into battle in RotK? Dom has the exact same "staring death in the face" expression that he has in Lost. guh.

And now, a meme, because I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] babybrothalova. :D

Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

1. Sometimes adults that I've known all my life call me "Jenny-pop" because my dad made up the name "Jenny-popadopalos", and he used to call me "Jenny-pop" all the time. LOL!
2. I have been on a cruise to the Bahamas. 'Twas very fun. :D
3. I have two Return of the King posters, and neither of them have Billy or Dom on them. >.<
4. I've composed two songs, both of which are crap, and I'm still working (kind of on-and-off) on the ending to one of them.
5. I've never fired a gun, but I really really want to, at least once in my life. Although I did just have my first try at a BB gun on Friday, so that was cool. LOL
6. I have the bad habit of thinking everyone is an idiot, and I rarely change this opinion of people unless I'm proven wrong by the person in question. >.< For the record, I don't think you guys are idiots. *g* Just people in general.
7. I haven't seriously read Harry Potter fanfiction since I began reading LotR RPS. *facepalm* And there were some good WIPs I was reading, too! I'll have to get back to those....
8. 8 is my favorite number.

I tag...

wow, coming up with 8 people was harder than I thought it would be. >.< So, do the meme if you'd like, or just ignore it if you feel so inclined.

somehow, I fit into a Junior size 11 and a t-shirt I wore in 3rd grade. I know I haven't lost any weight, but this just seems odd to me. How am I fitting into a Junior size?! I don't understand it! I've never worn Junior clothes!

in other news, I'm in the midst of whirlwind-cleaning the house, because the LotR lit class is coming over for NINE SOLID HOURS of LotR; extended editions of TTT and RotK. *\o/*

I was gonna post more about this at some other time, but during FotR two of my friends everyone was very giggly. >.< Hopefully that won't be the case (at least as much) today. Also, my dad's moved the big huge movie popcorn popper into the kitchen/living room area, so that should be fun. :D
silentdescant: (dominic heart)
I have a LotR book 6 test to take today and I'm only in chapter 1. >.< But anyway, it got me thinking about invisibility. This is such a random question omg. But pls to be humouring me?

Harry's Invisibility Cloak - This makes a ton of sense to me. It's a cloak that makes everything under it, no matter what it is, invisible. So, if you're too tall, your feet will show. If you pick up something and put it underneath, it too will be invisible. However, what about when it's just lying around? I don't get that. Shouldn't it be invisible all the time? Like, when Harry folds it up and puts it away and stuff?

The One Ring - This does not make sense to me at all. It makes the wearer invisible, right? But it also makes their clothes invisible, and stuff their holding (Frodo's sword, Sam's pack, etc.). But... it doesn't just make everything the invisible person touches invisible, does it? I mean, if Frodo picked up a rock while he was invisible, would it disappear too? And to further this, if the Ring turns everything the wearer touches invisible, why don't the floor of buildings and the rocks he climbs over disappear?

Personal Powers - This makes more sense, I think. Because usually it's just the person going invisible, not their clothes or things they touch. But this does have the problem of stripping down every time the person goes invisible. And I haven't seen Fantastic Four, but didn't the girl like, get a suit that went invisible too? or something? I wanna see that movie. and the sequel that's coming out soon. lol

So I guess my question is this: where does invisibility end? Is it just an arbitrary line drawn in the sand? "Everything up to this point can disappear, but nothing else"?

Therefore, a poll.

[Poll #986653]

DISCUSS.

ps: FotR tomorrow omgyay!! I don't know why I'm so excited, because I literally just watched it on TV, but YAY ANYWAY.

pps: I still have Charlie's Death Anthem (aka Run) on repeat. *sniff*

ppps: Apparently I am becoming obsessed with italics. *giggles*

also, I wouldn't be too sad to see Foreman go. >.<

eta also! lotr: rotk is on TBS right now (for the west coast, anyway), but sadly I am not watching. >.< but! lotr lit party is on friday/saturday. plan is this: watch fotr on friday during class, then the group comes over to my house on saturday for a ttt and rotk marathon. \o/
silentdescant: (thinking)
lotr book test tomorrow, but it's open-book, so yayness.

just barely got in my psych and english posts before midnight tonight, even though they were supposed to be done this MORNING. instead, i watched Lost, since i was still 2 weeks behind. i then geeked out and watched
spoilers )

i've also been listening to my "midnight storm" cd, which is classical music with thunder sounds over parts of it, and it's really cool and a great find at a library book sale. anyways, i have much love for Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D minor, and of course, Beethoven's 5th. and actually, there's a Mozart song on here that i really love, even though i'm not really a Mozart kind of girl. he's usually too happy-sounding for my taste. Beethoven's my fav because i can PLAY some of his stuff (moonlight sonata, and actually now that i said that, i'm surprised that's not on this cd!). /music geek omg

but anyway, i was mentioning the music because it kinda gets me in the zone for writing that new church monaboyd fic, which is a completely different style than i usually write in, so i have to concentrate to keep consistent. and Raquel said she likes the new style, and that it is very different, so it's not just my imagination. and now i'm all happy from that little review, so yay for writing.

and speaking of writing, i just remembered i have an essay about lighting in one scene of a film of my choice due by wednesday. and i haven't picked a movie yet. i'm going to watch Contact again, even though it's on vhs, because i seem to remember some dramatic lighting in that, and just because i love it and want to watch it again. i also have Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, which is black and white and should have some really good lighting, plus director commentary so maybe i can pull stuff from that for my essay.

oh, back to the music for a second. anybody know what the song is that's played in the background of the new lost promos? i've heard it before, i know i have, but i can't place it and now i really want that song. because it's pretty. *g*

and omg, tiffany i'm sorrrrrry. i meant to copy the table of contents yesterday, and then today, and now i've totally forgotten until now. >.< i WILL scan tomorrow. or something. sorrrrryyyyyyy. >.<
silentdescant: (oh crap)
I was gathering up my artwork today to put it in my portfolio and take pictures of it to post, and I can't find my Frodo painting anywhere. :( It wouldn't have gotten thrown out or anything, so I'm not too worried, but I just can't find it. The only picture I have is one that I took with my cell phone which isn't that good. >.<

On my biology CD, there's sometimes little movies of a lady with a cadaver or a plastic model pointing out organs and stuff. Well, one of the videos with the cadaver was very strange, to put it mildly. some kinda gross details ) But the really weird part is this: she pointed to something and said (and I'm paraphrasing here), "Most people say it's about twelve fingers long, but I only have ten, so just imagine two more." O__o Does that sound REALLY weird to anyone else, or is it just me? LOL

Anyway, I should get back to work. I have a psych quiz today/tomorrow, a first draft of a paper due tomorrow, a resume and an interview on Tuesday, and then more biology stuff on Wednesday. >.< I think it's somewhere around 4-5 weeks until the AP test. Somebody kill me now. And oh yes, I have a LotR book test on Friday too.

Oh, also, I'm thinking about redoing some of my icons, because on this color-corrected monitor, they look like crap. They looked good on my old monitor, honest! lol
silentdescant: (thinking)
School stuff first (though god knows these won't actually be completed first...)
  • essay for that weekend class

  • book report for that weekend class

  • poem for LotR Lit

  • story for LotR Lit

and now the fun stuff.

list of WIPs, fics I haven't started yet, and things I'm going to abandon )

First priority is RunAway, and then Escaping Blame and Winding Road, because I like them the best.

what a long day. I'm about to fall asleep, really.

1) regularly scheduled co-op, and a biology test that I think I did reasonably well on. last week's test was horrible, though. also, I'm FINALLY caught up in LotR. *\o/* just finished TTT, and now we're doing a unit study on Fantasy and Poetry before picking up again with RotK. oh, I should post my little Gollum story...

2) first day of the weekend Career Counceling class. tons of fun, but loooong. there was one girl sitting next to me and we were talking about... something. I don't even remember. anyway, somehow the subject got around to her nephew, who's like, five or something. anyway, she said he goes around and paints people's nails and does their hair and picks out their clothes, and she said that the whole family is just waiting to see if he's gay or just metrosexual. LOL! also, she reads fanfiction, which is a plus! I don't know if she reads slash or not, but with her attitude about her nephew, I bet she does. annnnd, there was this other girl who wants to be a politician, and she's really cute and really easy to talk to, so we chatted for a while in our little group. tomorrow we're going to actually analyze our Meyers-Briggs test results and research careers. but through the stuff we did today, apparently writing is like, my biggest passion ever. lol! another one of my passions is Dom. seriously. the instructor had this little list of criteria, and as I was thinking about it, I realized that I: spend a lot of time doing Dom-related activities (reading fanfic and articles, writing, drawing, looking at pics, watching lotr/lost), I get inspired by him, I get motivated by him (like you wouldn't believe), and... some other stuff on the list that I can't remember now. well, there's certainly worse things to be passionate about. *g*

side note: I didn't post RunAway yesterday (well now it's past midnight for me, so the day before yesterday, Thursday), because the chapter's only half-finished. but I'm working on it, I really am!

tomorrow/today: second day of weekend class - allll day long. then, after that's finished, I go straight to the theatre to re-shoot the play, because the actors all flubbed their lines last week.

also: Regional Vex Tournament in GA! root for... oh hell, I don't know the team name/number. root for Tony's team! LOL *wishes them good luck*
silentdescant: (thinking)
shit shit shit shit shit, I totally forgot about my script that's due WEDNESDAY. I have to have five new pages and I don't even have them started. I don't even know which scene I want to write. that? is bad.

also, RunAway chapter is about half finished. but it's going really good and I'm actually liking this one because of a slight style change I'm trying.

other stuff: a lotr essay. something about Gollum's point of view of being taken by Faramir or some other such important event. I don't remember. I'll have to check before actually attempting to write it.

randomness

numbered, because I want it to be.

1) Biology sucks, as usual, and I don't think I did very well on my test, but we did get to dissect cow eyeballs. That was pretty disgusting, but cool also. But still, very disgusting.

2) I'm nearly caught up in LotR. I have to read 6.5 chapters this week, but I already have most of the questions pretty much answered from class... Also, I have a 99 overall midterm grade. \o/ Dunno what I did (or didn't do) to make it not 100 though...

3) Group project for cinema is going horribly; we don't even have a script finalized yet. 10 days until it's due and we still have to plan, shoot, edit, and get music/audio for it. And all around our five very different schedules. I think the other girl in the group is going crazy because we're so disorganized. I wish people would just decide something already!

4) I got my hair cut! About time, too. It was too long for my taste, and getting all tangly all the time. >.< But now it's shorter (around my shoulders) and much lighter. While I was out, I was going to stop by the post office since it's right across the street, but didn't at the last minute because I only had about half the stuff I was going to send. Figured it'd be better just to send everything once instead of a bunch of different little packages.... >.<

5) Next weekend is my Career Exploration class, which should be a lot of fun. I'm about to take my little personality quiz thingies now so that the teacher can analyse the results or whatever it is that he does with them.

6) I have a love/hate relationship with a pair of my jeans. On the one hand, I love that they're loose enough on me to settle around my hips and make me feel like I actually have hipbones, but on the other hand, the fact that they slide down all the time means I have to either wear a belt or pull them up all the time. >.< Another good thing though - no matter what my body's doing, they're allllways a bit loose on me. Which is nice.

7) I need to figure out a recital song for piano. The theme this year is Toys & Games so the song either has to have a toy/game title, be from a movie/musical about toys and games, or the song has to be about toys and games. I've looked at the books I have but so far nothing's jumping out at me. >.<

8) This song, Allegro, is sooo pretty and I'd love to play it on the piano, but a) I don't have the music for it and b) my preliminary google search didn't give me much about the song to go on. :\
