hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

well, that was fantastically unimpressive. we watched a 3-hour-delay of the ball dropping in NY, and then quickly switched over to KING 5 for the "New Years at the Needle" fireworks show... wow, how pathetic was that? we laughed ourselves silly, joking that some guy was probably going up and down the elevator, and then around the top, manually lighting each one (that's certainly what it looked like). and omg they actually did, though it was from the control booth. ROFLMAO

Computer glitch throws wrench into New Year's at the Needle (there's probably a video of it somewhere, or there will be soon, but I can't be arsed to find it, and it's slightly painful to watch anyway. LOL the video link is there now! lol)

eta: an actual article about what happened: Computer glitch stops New Year's Eve fireworks at Space Needle
silentdescant: (yay!)
I got my most recent SAT scores back today: writing was a bit lower, but I expected that. math was EXACTLY THE SAME as last time (640, if I remember correctly), and the reading? up by 80 points. *\o/* YAAAAAY. Hopefully this means I qualify for the highest scholarship at SCAD. :D :D :D I'm very excited. I need to send in my application packet today with my updated scores, homeschool transcript, and personal statement. Hopefully I'll know whether I'm accepted by Christmas or New Years. YAY.

I got 46/50 on my studio quiz last Thursday. And ok, y'know that movie premiere the guy at class invited me to? There's an article about it in the newspaper. Jeff is the guy I know. Didn't I tell you he was good-looking? ;D This is so awesome. And I didn't know he was homeschooled!! I'll have to ask him for tickets tonight. I'm very excited about that also.

Tomorrow night's the Halloween Dance, which I went to last year, but besides a mild desire to go, I'd totally forgotten about it. And anyway, the premiere is the next night, and it's probably better not to do two things in a row. Besides the fact that I haven't even thought about costumes... I dunno what I'm going to do for Halloween...

I'll be posting RunAway in a few minutes and OMG I LOVE THIS NEXT CHAPTER. It ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, though. SORRY.

And one more thing: the Across the Universe soundtrack is so awesome and I've been listening to it non-stop since yesterday. omg this song makes me laugh. "They're great, they're just... chillled out!"

in the Seattle Times today:

OK, it's time to get serious.

Fall fashion this year is about a proper suit, long leather gloves, an oxford shoe or a power pump and a structured handbag. It completes the 180-degree revolution away from the loose and carefree bohemian styles that were all the rage mere seasons ago.

YES PLEASE THANK YOU GOD.

the article goes on to stress blazers (omgyes!), gloves, specifically opera gloves (I WANT), and grey as a main colour because it can go with anything (I need something grey...).

you guys have no idea how long I've waited for this stuff to be "in" again. I have so many fitted blazers (most of which actually fit me), a new pair of black trousers that are SO comfortable, and even a couple pairs of nice heels. hahahaha yay I can finally be fashionable without even trying. *\o/*

Unlike other recent trends, such as the empire waists that don't flatter everyone, [...] a neat appearance can complement anyone — anywhere.

YES, thank you.

that is all.

Because I don't know how to grab it off the site, I typed up a transcript of the Comcast Exclusive interview. The interview is found here. They say "y'know" a lot.

this is so cool. they've a map of the dark matter in our universe! and lol, the astronomers are in Seattle!

in other news, I feel about 80% better than I did a few days ago. maybe it was just a 24-hour type virus. but I also drank a TON of water and tried to sleep a lot, which I'm sure helped. of course, I stayed up 'till 4am last night reading all the textbooks that I was behind in for class today. the cinematography book is SO BORING, it's like reading a safety manual. the two scriptwriting ones are very cool, though.

must get ready for class!

I didn't get any real chores done, but I did fix all of my journal entry tags! And updated links to everywhere! And I posted a new chapter!! (yeah, yeah, "about time," right?) Well, I also did a bit of writing. Just a bit. Not enough for a full chapter, though. >.<

Also, there's this. My mom emailed it to me.

the article thingy )
silentdescant: (shhh!)
I've another article for you! An interview with Sean Lennon (son of John Lennon, if you didn't already figure that out), and streaming audio of one of his songs. Sounds cool. Like something I would listen to.

Also, I feel I should explain that poll a bit. I don't usually think I'm being annoying (at least, I try not to be), but lately, instead of making one long post with several topics, I make about three thousand little short posts, sometimes with not topic at all. And I can see how that would be annoying. I'm mostly doing it as a method of procrastination, so I should really quit it anyhow, but. I'd rather post than work, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, so that's it. At least this post has a purpose, right?
silentdescant: (light up (as if you have a choice))
ranDOMly, I noticed that the entertainment section of today's paper had three movie adverts all lined up in a row. The movies were Flushed Away, Babel, and Happy Feet. I thought it was funny how all three of those movies had LotR actors in them;

on Happy Feet's ad, there were the names Elijah Wood and Hugo Weaving,
on Babel's, Cate Blanchett,
and Flushed Away didn't have any names on it, but I happen to know that it has Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis in it.

in other news: still working on my papers. >.< only three more days!

whoa.

i'll just copy some stuff directly from my .doc

here's my outline

but then i also found a good site to use as an outline. (this might be in the LBH, but i'm not sure)

http://wps.ablongman.com/long_fowler_lbh_10/0,11681,3013045-,00.html

i used the "questions for literary analysis" and just filled it in like an outline. based the paper off of that.

hope this helps.

EDIT - i'm leaving in about 10 min. see you at class. we're only doing seminar today, right? i'll bring all my notes with me.

also, i haven't read astronomy yet. >.<

Flist and whoever might be wandering through, what are your thoughts/opinions on Net Neutrality? I'm working on forming my own opinions, but any other points of view would be great.

Edit: Now that I'm slightly more knowledgable in this area (meaning: not knowledgable at all) I think I'm for Net Neutrality. It seems to stand for equal rights and no discrimination. Then again, the other side has a justifiable reason; if there are no "fast lanes" then an x-ray of someone's heart gets the same priority as a Britney Spears video. (not my example). But even so, I think that equality should be the bottom line. And if the people with the x-ray and the people with the video pay for the same services, then they should be treated equally. But don't base your opinions off mine because I haven't a clue as to what I'm talking about.

Edit 2: I had to contact my dad. lol! But he said that I basically have it right. For NN means that users control what they see/have access to on the internet. Against NN means that internet service providers (like comcast) control who has access to what. Which is bad for internet businesses like Amazon.com and Google, because the ISP could potentially limit or restrict web traffic to their sites. It's all beginning to make sense now..... *g*

Edit 3: [profile] bloodrayveness gave me a great link about Net Neutrality with a music video to go with it! Check it out here, even if you don't care, because the video is awesome. And freaky. lol!

silentdescant: (oh crap)
the lotr symphony is cancelled! *cries* and they didn't say why (yet)! *cries some more* why?!?! i think i actually would have gotten people to agree to go to it, but no, it's cancelled.  :,(

OH YEAH, i remembered what i wanted to say earlier while my brain was making my head hurt.

LORD OF THE RINGS SYMPHONY CONCERT AT A VINEYARD HERE ON SEPTEMBER 9TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tickets for seats: like $90. tickets for peripheral areas: either $30 or $50, i can't remember.

now, why is it so expensive? does that mean that someone special is either conducting or singing or going to be there? i wanna gooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: $40 for general admission, $100 for reserved seating. the chateau ste. michelle website doesnt have a whole lot about it except for a press release on how great the music is which I ALREADY KNOW. link to the site here. lotr stuff is at the bottom of the page. i will continue to research whats going on.....

ETA 2: i found a better website here. the part where it says "...a program entitled “The Rings: Myth and Music,”" i read it as "The Rings: Mirth and Magic..." ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also, i liked this bit:

Shore achieves this enormous feat by the ingenious use and juxtaposition of a plethora of recurring motifs – close to 80 in all – associated with the various characters and places in the books. Shore’s employment of some instruments foreign to the traditional Western symphony orchestra – and of choral settings in Tolkien’s languages – helps conjure up the ancient beauty of Middle-earth, its diverse inhabitants, and the harrowing struggle between the forces of good and evil.

Shore likens the daunting experience of writing the music for the three The Lord of the Rings films to that of the humble hobbit asked to carry the ring. “When I started,” he told the Chicago Tribune, “I was the hobbit with the ring saying, ‘I will do this. I will take the ring to Mordor, although I do not know the way.’” Shore considers his work on The Lord of the Rings to be the culmination of everything he has done in his first 40 years of writing music.

I came across an article in the newspaper today about a guy who makes cool-looking glass/gemstone jewelry. The article just happened to mention my favorite hobbit and his girlfriend as well.

Check out the article (with pictures of the jewelry) here. Or, read just the text behind the cut,
here. )
